The financial year, otherwise known as the tax year, runs from 6th April to 5th April in the following year.

I hold a CIS Registration Card, how can I claim my tax refund?

As you are a CIS4 Registration Card holder you will already be registered with your Inland Revenue office. Your tax office will send you a Tax Return each April. The return must completed and sent with all your CIS25 vouchers that you have been given by your contractors.

What records do I need?

You will need your CIS 25 vouchers. If you have been employed on PAYE you will need a P45 for each employment you have had during the tax year or a P60 from the company that you were employed by at the end of the tax year. You should obtain these from your employer or agency. If you have received any additional income such as invoiced work, bank/building society interest or dividends, you will need to provide full details.

What is a P45/P60/CIS voucher?

A P45 is a certificate of your income indicating how much you earned and how much tax you paid on those earnings. Your employer will issue it to you at the end of each employment. A P60 is a certificate of income issued to you at the end of the financial year indicating how much you have earned and how much tax you paid on those earnings. What if I don’t have all my vouchers?

You should remind the contractor that he or she is obliged to give you a CIS25 voucher, showing the amount of the payment and any deductions made, within 14 days of the end of the tax month in which the payment was made. If you still do not receive the voucher from the contractor, we may be able to obtain your voucher details from the tax office.

When can I claim my rebate?

Either at the end of the financial year or if your leaving the UK and do not intend to return to employment before the end of the current tax year.

What if I have lost my P45 or P60?

If any P45's or P60's have been lost you will need to obtain a Statement of Earnings from your employer or agency as a substitute.

What if I have I have outstanding tax returns from previous years?

If you have been working on CIS you may still be entitled to a refund. If so, we will be able to clear any penalties and surcharges imposed against you.

Do I have to complete a tax return?

If you are Self-Employed, or a Construction industry worker receiving CIS25 vouchers, you will be required to complete a tax return. If you fail to do so, penalties, interest and surcharges will be imposed against you.

How much do you charge?

Our fees typically ranges between £99-£295 (ex. VAT) depending on the number of months of self employment and the time taken as a result of the amount of work needed to complete your accounts. This is an all inclusive fee, we DO NOT charge extra for the tracing of missing documents, as some tax refund companies do.

How long does it take?

Once you have provided us with your details and all documentation, we aim to finalise your accounts within two to eight weeks. Please be aware that some claims may exceed the original expected completion time due to incorrect or insufficient information and/or unavoidable delays caused by the Inland Revenue.
